Jake Cunningham is currently Judicial Staff Attorney to Judge Mary Ellen Brennan in the Oakland County Circuit Court, Family Division.
Jake is involved in all facets of family law cases from initial filings through post- judgment litigation, in matters including divorce, custody, parenting time, child and spousal support, adoptions, legal name changes, juvenile delinquency, and abuse/neglect (termination of parental rights) proceedings. He serves as a liaison between the court, the parties to each case, Friend of the Court staff, and attorneys. Jake conducts pre-trial settlement conferences, prepares legal research on all filed motions, and assists the court in rulings at trials and hearings.
Before working in the Family Division, Jake served as law clerk to Judge Wendy Potts in the Oakland County Business Court, where he assisted the court by recommending rulings on commercial litigation matters, business disputes, and on felonies. In his career, he has recommended decisions on thousands of motions, pre-trial evidentiary matters, and trial rulings. Jake has dedicated his career to public service in the Oakland County Circuit Court.
Additionally, Jake has been an adjunct law professor and has guest lectured on family law matters and court procedure and served as chair of Oakland County Bar Association Professional Development Committee.
